Ministry of Justice

This video was created for the ministry of justice to give young people with experience of Court Proceedings a platform to talk about their experiences, and to share their opinions on the benefit of judges communicating with the child at the centre of proceedings in a way the child can understand and process.

This process allows the child to understand how, and why a particular decision was made by the Judge, upholds the child’s rights to participate, and ensures that the child’s wishes and feelings were taken into account throughout the decision-making process.

Behind the Scenes

Illustrating the sensitive nature of these personal stories was a challenge. We were working to a very tight timeline of three days, and didn’t have the budget to rig characters, so I decided to focus only fully rendering the children at the centre of the story. Adults and other people are silhouetted or outlined to capture the loose feeling of recalling a memory from childhood, and colourful dynamic brush strokes are incorporated throughout to reflect the intense emotions surrounding the situation.
