More In Common
Created for political research group More In Common to illustrate the ‘Perception Gap’ between democrats and republicans, and its impact on US democracy.
The goal was to help bridge the gap between both sides, encourage people to engage empathetically, and to seek out a wider range of information sources during a time of extremely heightened polarization, distrust, and conflict.
As a political explainer animation, the goal was to make it informative, engaging, and easy to digest. With this in mind, we opted for friendly rounded shapes, and a limited and transitioning colour palette - starting with red and blue for republican and democrat, moving to purple to represent people more in the middle, and then expanding to a range of bright colours to show that most people’s views shift and expand with time and empathetic discussion.
